Meet Don Davis
Attorney and Humorist
Attorney and Humorist
During a particularly tedious deposition, in which the most "significant" question posed was whether the witness ever "went outside the lines while coloring in kindergarten," Don Davis was observed furiously scribbling notes on a yellow legal pad. The other 17 attorneys who were huddled around the large conference room table marveled at Don's diligence. At the end of the seven-hour session, over 150 pages of satiric verse magically emerged, under the heading: "THE REPUBLICANS ARE WAY OUT OF LINE; THE DEMOCRATS HAVE GOT NO SPINE." Thus was born the miracle of ONE STATE TWO STATE RED STATE BLUE STATE, conceived during what is famously referred to in legal circles as The Immaculate Deposition.
A Brooklyn native and self-described "political humor junkie," Don started reading the columns of famed political satirists Russell Baker and Art Buchwald at the tender age of 10. MAD magazine, George Carlin, and later Saturday Night Live, also helped nurture his reverence for the irreverent.
In high school, Don tried to juggle academic excellence with the art of class clownology. A friend even wrote in Don's Yearbook that he had the wit of Mort Sahl. Unfortunately, the handwriting was so horrendous, Don thought he was being advised to go into business with his Uncle Saul. That's why this book did not emerge until 30 years later.

Inspired in adult life by what he thought was the comedic genius of such programs as Seinfeld and Curb Your Enthusiasm, Don was determined to break into show business.
At one point, he got so desperate he even took the test for Mime School; but he scored way too high on his Verbals. He also hit the stand-up comedy circuit in the New York City clubs, once finishing as 6th runner-up in a "funniest lawyer" contest.
Don's politics are not easy to stereotype. While he is often perceived as left-of-center, he insists that he has no patience for those Birkenstock Lefties that claim the Iraqi War was only about oil; instead, Don points out, the war was actually instigated by the guy who manufactures all those yellow ribbons that get plastered on the back of SUVs.
When not writing or commenting on the circus that passes for today's political dialogue, Don practices law in New York City, as a partner in the firm of Ellenoff, Grossman & Schole LLP, specializing in commercial litigation and securities law. Don has been extremely successful in obtaining highly favorable judgments and settlements for his clients.
Don received his Juris Doctor degree from Cornell Law School in 1981, where he was an Editor of the Law Review, and his Bachelor of Arts degree from SUNY Binghamton, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa and The Political Science Honor Society.
Don lives in New York with his wife of 20 years, Lisa, his two teenage children, Charlie and Becky, and a West Highland Terrier named Abby. He can be contacted via email at .
